Day 4: The Master You Cannot Serve
Reading: Matthew 6:24
Devotional: Jesus makes an uncomfortable declaration: "No one can serve two masters." Notice He doesn't say it's difficult or inadvisable—He says it's impossible. You will love one and hate the other. This isn't about money alone; fill in the blank with whatever pulls you from God. Eventually, one thing will rule your heart. You can be loyal to two things for a moment, but not forever. The trajectory always bends toward one master or the other. This explains why people once on fire for God gradually disappear—the world slowly won the battle for their hearts. God will not compete for a place in a heart He's supposed to fully own. He refuses to share the throne. Today, identify what's vying for mastership in your life. Recognize that neutrality is impossible. You're moving toward full devotion to God or away from it. There is no standing still.
Reflection: If your life's trajectory continues unchanged, which master will you be serving five years from now?
