Day 5: Peace Is a Practice
Reading: Psalm 61:1-4 and Matthew 11:28-30
Devotional: The psalmist cried out from the end of the earth, when his heart was faint and overwhelmed, asking God to lead him to a rock higher than himself (Psalm 61:2). That prayer is honest, humble, and powerful. Jesus echoes this invitation in Matthew 11:28, calling all who are weary and carrying heavy burdens to come to Him for rest. Notice that Jesus does not shame the exhausted. He invites them closer. Biblical peace is not the absence of storms around you — it is the presence of God within you. And that kind of peace, as Paul describes it, is something that grows through consistent practice: praying, giving thanks, renewing the mind, and living in community with others.
Reflection Questions:
What does it mean to you that Jesus invites the weary rather than criticizing them?
Which of the five weekly challenges — reduce the noise, replace your thoughts, release your burdens, reach out to others, receive appropriate help — do you most need to apply right now?
How has this week of reflection changed the way you think about mental health, mindsets, and God's role in both?
Practical Application: Choose one of the five practical challenges from this week's sermon and commit to it for the next seven days. Tell one trusted person what you are committing to so that you have accountability and community as you move forward.
